A Greenprint for a Sustainable Independent Britain
A Greenprint for a Sustainable Independent Britain

It has been a good week.

We are working through the final draft of the Sustain Britain manifesto, which now has a new title. It’s one that better expresses the purpose of the document:

‘A Greenprint for a Sustainable, Independent Britain’

The reason for the switch is that we don’t want to be seen as a political organisation. Instead, we wish to be seen as a movement that encourages communities to look after themselves and rectify the country’s problems, regardless of assistance from the Government; although we will be working to influence national and regional policy.

In keeping with this, I am pleased to share that I have been invited to attend a round table discussion on Resilience for the communities in the South Cotswold by Roz Savage, one of our local MPs. The group’s definition of resilience (seen below) fits exactly with the beliefs and ambitions of Sustain Britain.

“Our definition of resilience: The ability of a community to meet its own needs from within

its surroundings - through local resources and a strong network of relationships and/or a

community’s ability to survive the impact of a changing climate e.g. flooding”

The group’s initial focus is flooding - an area where communities have the potential to take the lead as local and central government have failed repeatedly to address the issue effectively.

It should be an interesting evening; one that we hope lead onto other resilience and self-reliance initiatives.

Until next time…

Nick Ash
