This coming Thursday (6th February) marks a significant day in the future of Sustain Wiltshire when we meet with the Environment Agency. This meeting forms a vital part of our advanced pre-application process, where we will receive advice on the necessary permitting route for the Super-Midden.
These discussions will be pivotal to the future development of the Super-Midden, taking us closer to the day when we realise our vision of transforming landfill into one of the most climate-friendly methods of waste disposal: generating energy, heat, and affordable fruit and vegetables for local communities.
Meanwhile, the gas engine on site, which is safely converting landfill methane into electricity, has now produced 9 million kWh of power. In the process, it has prevented many thousands of tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.
The team have worked through a couple of issues with the biological treatment plant but have kept it fully operational throughout. This involved working nights and weekends to manually balance the plant. We salute their efforts.
Until next time…
